Note: The Photoshop tutorial is done in CS6 – therefore some screenshot may have slighting different layout as in the earlier version. Some brushes are exclusive to Photoshop CS6.
Here is a preview of the final effect I have for this tutorial: (click to enlarge)
PSD File Download
Step 1
Create a new document sized 1180px * 680px with white background. Load the Hill image into Photoshop and use the quick selection tool to select the top of the hill, as shown below:
Copy and paste the selection onto our document, and resize it the fit the width of our document:
Use a soft eraser to fade the top edge of the ground layer, this will create a fog-like effect:
Add a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer to this ground layer with the following settings:
and you will have the following effect so far:
Step 2
We will add a crack onto the grass, which we will use later on to place our text in. Load the “Forest 2″ image into Photoshop and select the following portion with our quick selection tool:
Copy and paste the selection onto our document and distort it slightly so it fits the shape of the hill:
Use a splatter brush as eraser, gently erase the edge of the track so it blends into the grass:
Use the Burn tool to add some dark shadow on the inner sides of the track:
This adds more depth to the track:
Load the Sky image into Photoshop and copy and the sky into our document, then apply the following Motion blur filter setting to it:
Fade the bottom edge of the sky with a soft eraser tool and you will have the following effect so far:
Step 3
We will start working on the type. Load the Forest 1 image into Photoshop and select the following trunk portion from the image:
Copy and paste the trunk into our document, and use the Lasso tool (with 40px feather setting) to select its bottom part as shown below:
Adjust the Hue/Saturation setting for this selection so the bottom part blends into the ground:
Add some shadow under the trunk with a soft black brush:
Go back to the Forest 1 image and copy a few more tree branches, and attach them to form a letter “F”, as shown below:
Step 4
Load the Palm Tree Leaf image into Photoshop and select it with the magic wand tool:
Copy and paste the selection onto our document and place this layer below the first big wood trunk layer. Resize and duplicate it a few more times, attach the layers to different parts on the letter as shown below:
Also add some grass over the wood with the following portion from the forest 2 image:
Paste the selection over to our document, resize it and set the layer blending mode to “Hard Light”. Duplicate this new grass layer a few more times and attach them as shown below:
Step 5
We’re almost done! Optionally, you can add some green particles around the text, just to add some motion into it:
We can add a new black layer on top of all previous layer, and render the following lens flare filter to it:
Change the blending mode to “Screen”, and you will have the following effect:
And here is my final effect for this Photoshop tutorial: (click to enlarge)
Till next time, have a great day!
